भ्रातुस् ते वदतः पुत्र लक्ष्मणस्य श्रुतम् त्वया ।
यद् अत्र अनन्तरम् तत् त्वम् कुरुष्व यदि रोचते ॥२-२१-२०॥
bhrātus te vadataḥ putra lakṣmaṇasya śrutam tvayā |
yad atra anantaram tat tvam kuruṣva yadi rocate ॥2-21-20॥
Translation
O Son, you have heard what your brother Lakshmana is saying. Now, if it pleases you, do what is appropriate hereafter (implying he should consider Lakshmana's advice).

हे पुत्र! तुम्हारे भाई लक्ष्मण जो कह रहे हैं, वह तुमने सुना। अब इसके बाद जो उचित हो, यदि तुम्हें ठीक लगे, तो वही करो।
English Commentary
Kausalya essentially endorses Lakshmana’s rebellious stance without commanding it outright. By saying 'if it pleases you,' she offers Rama an escape route from his father's order, validating Lakshmana's logic. This is a crucial moment where the mother subtly aligns against the father's decree due to her overpowering love for her son. She implies that Rama is not bound to suffer silently when he has the support to resist. It reveals her desperation; she is willing to entertain the idea of defying the King to keep her son safe and close, prioritizing maternal instinct over royal protocol.
