न अस्ति शक्तिः पितुर् वाक्यम् समतिक्रमितुम् मम ।
प्रसादये त्वाम् शिरसा गन्तुम् इच्चाम्य् अहम् वनम् ॥२-२१-२९॥
na asti śaktiḥ pitur vākyam samatikramitum mama |
prasādaye tvām śirasā gantum iccāmy aham vanam ॥2-21-29॥
Translation
I do not have the power to transgress my father's word. I bow my head and seek your grace; I wish to go to the forest.

मुझमें पिता के वचन का उल्लंघन करने की शक्ति (सामर्थ्य) नहीं है। मैं सिर झुकाकर आपको प्रसन्न करता हूँ (आपसे विनती करता हूँ), मैं वन जाना चाहता हूँ।
English Commentary
Rama delivers his verdict with humility but absolute firmness. He frames his obedience to his father not as a choice, but as an inevitability—he lacks the 'power' or capacity to break a pledge given by his father. This elevates the father's word to a cosmic law that cannot be transgressed. Crucially, he does not fight Kausalya's authority; instead, he bows his head (shirasa) and begs for her grace (prasadaye). He is asking her to align her will with the truth (Satya) of the situation, seeking her blessing to fulfill his duty, rather than simply disobeying her command. This resolves the conflict by prioritizing the integrity of the King's word.

राम अंततः अपना निर्णय सुनाते हैं। वह यह नहीं कहते कि "मैं नहीं मानूंगा," बल्कि वह कहते हैं "मुझमें शक्ति नहीं है" (नास्ति शक्तिः)। इसका अर्थ है कि पिता का वचन एक अटल सत्य है जिसे तोड़ना उनके स्वभाव और अस्तित्व के विपरीत है। वह माता के तर्कों को काटते नहीं, बल्कि अपनी विवशता और पिता के वचन की सर्वोच्चता को रखते हैं। "शिरसा प्रसादये" (सिर से प्रणाम करके मनाना) राम की विनम्रता को दर्शाता है। वह माता की आज्ञा की अवहेलना नहीं कर रहे, बल्कि उनसे जाने की अनुमति (आशीर्वाद) मांग रहे हैं, यह मानते हुए कि माता अंततः धर्म को समझेंगी।
