तत् एतत् तु मया कार्यम् क्रियते भुवि न अन्यथा ।
पितुर् हि वचनम् कुर्वन् न कश्चिन् नाम हीयते ॥२-२१-३६॥
tat etat tu mayā kāryam kriyate bhuvi na anyathā |
pitur hi vacanam kurvan na kaścin nāma hīyate ॥2-21-36॥
Translation
Therefore, this task must indeed be done by me in this world; not otherwise. For no one who fulfills his father's word ever comes to grief (or loses dignity).

इसलिए, इस पृथ्वी पर मुझे यह कार्य (वनगमन) करना ही है, इसके विपरीत नहीं। पिता के वचन का पालन करने वाला कोई भी व्यक्ति कभी हीन (नष्ट/पतित) नहीं होता।
English Commentary
Rama concludes his argument to his mother with finality. The phrase na anyathā (not otherwise) signals that his decision is irrevocable. He offers a maxim: obedience to a father never leads to a person's diminution or ruin (hīyate). This is an expression of spiritual optimism—the belief that acting in accordance with Dharma protects the doer, regardless of external hardships. He is asking his mother to trust in the protective power of Truth, assuring her that his spiritual stature remains intact even if his royal status is lost.

राम अपने निर्णय पर अंतिम मुहर लगाते हैं। "न अन्यथा" (अन्यथा नहीं)—अर्थात् अब इस विषय पर और तर्क-वितर्क की गुंजाइश नहीं है। राम एक सार्वभौमिक सत्य (universal truth) स्थापित करते हैं: पितृ-भक्ति कभी व्यर्थ नहीं जाती और न ही उससे किसी का अहित होता है। यह उनकी आस्था है कि सत्य का पालन अंततः कल्याणकारी ही होगा, भले ही वर्तमान में वह कष्टदायक लग रहा हो। यह श्लोक राम के अटूट आत्मविश्वास और नैतिक स्पष्टता को दर्शाता है।
