Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
न अस्य अपराधम् पश्यामि न अपि दोषम् तथा विधम् ।
येन निर्वास्यते राष्ट्रात् वन वासाय राघवः ॥ ॥२-२१-४॥
Na asya aparādham paśyāmi na api doṣam tathā vidham । Yena nirvāsyate rāṣṭrāt vana vāsāya rāghavaḥ ॥ ॥2-21-4॥
Translation
"I do not see any crime committed by him, nor any such fault, for which Raghava should be exiled from the kingdom to dwell in the forest."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"मैं राम का ऐसा कोई अपराध या दोष नहीं देखता, जिसके कारण उन्हें राज्य से निकालकर वनवास दिया जा रहा हो।"
English Commentary
Lakshmana shifts to a legal/moral argument. Punishment requires a crime. He asserts there is no aparadham (crime) or dosham (fault) in Rama that warrants expulsion. Exile is the highest punishment next to death, and applying it to a flawless prince is a gross miscarriage of justice. Lakshmana stands as the defender of Rama's innocence, demanding a valid cause for the sentence, which does not exist.

लक्ष्मण तार्किक आधार पर बात करते हैं। दंड तभी दिया जा सकता है जब कोई 'अपराध' या 'दोष' हो। वह चुनौती देते हैं कि कोई राम का गुनाह साबित करे। निर्दोष को सजा देना अन्याय है, और अन्याय को सहना कायरता है। लक्ष्मण यहाँ 'नैसर्गिक न्याय' (Natural Justice) के सिद्धांत की बात कर रहे हैं कि बिना कारण किसी को देश निकाला नहीं दिया जा सकता।
