न तम् पश्याम्य् अहम् लोके परोक्षम् अपि यो नरः ।
स्वमित्रोऽपि निरस्तोऽपि योऽस्यदोषमुदाहरेत् ॥ ॥२-२१-५॥
Na tam paśyāmy aham loke parokṣam api yo naraḥ । Svamitro'pi nirasto'pi yo'syadoṣamudāharet ॥ ॥2-21-5॥
Translation
"I do not see any man in this world, even among enemies or those cast away, who could point out a fault in him (Rama), even behind his back."

"मुझे इस संसार में ऐसा कोई मनुष्य नहीं दिखता—चाहे वह मित्र हो या शत्रु (निरस्त), जो परोक्ष में (पीठ पीछे) भी राम का कोई दोष बता सके।"
English Commentary
Lakshmana emphasizes the universal consensus on Rama's virtue. He claims that not even a nirasta (banished person/enemy) speaks ill of Rama, even paroksham (in secret/absence). Usually, enemies slander behind one's back, but Rama's conduct is so impeccable that it commands respect even from adversaries. This reinforces the absurdity of the King's decision to exile the most beloved and faultless man in the realm.

राम का चरित्र इतना उज्ज्वल है कि लक्ष्मण कहते हैं कि शत्रु भी उनमें दोष नहीं निकाल सकते। 'परोक्षम् अपि' (पीठ पीछे भी) महत्वपूर्ण है—लोग डर के मारे सामने तारीफ कर सकते हैं, पर राम की बुराई कोई अकेले में भी नहीं करता। 'निरस्त' (जिन्हें राम ने हराया या निकाला हो) वे भी उनकी निंदा नहीं कर सकते। ऐसे सर्वप्रिय व्यक्ति को वन भेजना पागलपन है।
