किम् जीवितेनेह विना त्वया मे ।
लोकेन वा किम् स्वधयाऽमृतेन ।
श्रेयो मुहूर्तम् तव सन्निधानम् ।
ममेह कृत्स्नादपि जीवलोकात् ॥ ॥२-२१-५२॥
Kim jīviteneha vinā tvayā me । Lokena vā kim svadhāyāmṛtena । Śreyo muhūrtam tava sannidhānam । Mameha kṛtsnādapi jīvalokāt ॥ ॥2-21-52॥
Translation
What use is life to me here without you? What use is the world, or the oblations to ancestors (Svadha), or even immortality (Amrita)? For me, your company even for a moment is better than the entire world of living beings.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तुम्हारे बिना मुझे यहाँ जीवन से क्या प्रयोजन? मुझे लोक (संसार के सुख) से, स्वधा (पितरों के भोजन) से, या अमृत से क्या लेना? मेरे लिए समस्त जीवलोक (के राज्य) से भी बढ़कर तुम्हारा मुहूर्त भर (क्षण भर) का साथ (सान्निध्य) ही श्रेयस्कर है।
English Commentary
Kausalya expresses the depth of her attachment. She rejects all existential values—life (jivita), the world (loka), religious rites/ancestral offerings (svadha), and even divine immortality (amrita)—if they are devoid of Rama. This is a rejection of both material and spiritual goals if achieved at the cost of separation from her son. She weighs the entire jivaloka (world of living beings/kingdom) against a mere muhurta (a moment) of Rama’s presence and chooses the latter. It emphasizes that for her, Rama is not just a son or a king-to-be, but the very essence of her existence and happiness. The comparison underscores the magnitude of the sacrifice Rama is asking her to make.

कौशल्या अब अधिकार से हटकर पुनः प्रेम की पराकाष्ठा पर आती हैं। उनके लिए राम के बिना जीवन निरर्थक है। वे कहती हैं कि उन्हें न तो इस लोक का सुख चाहिए और न ही परलोक का (स्वधा और अमृत)। 'स्वधा' पितरों को दी जाती है और 'अमृत' देवताओं का भोजन है—अर्थात राम के बिना उन्हें न पितृलोक की चिंता है न देवलोक की। उनके लिए राम का सान्निध्य (साथ) समस्त ब्रह्मांड के सुखों से बड़ा है। 'मुहूर्तम्' (48 मिनट या एक क्षण) का साथ उन्हें त्रिलोक के राज्य से अधिक प्रिय है। यह पुत्र के प्रति एक माँ के निस्वार्थ और एकांतिक प्रेम का सर्वोच्च उदाहरण है।
