तदनन्तर, व्यथा से दीन और विशेष रूप से क्रोधित (अमर्षित), फुफकारते हुए नागराज (नागेन्द्र) के समान लंबी साँसें लेते हुए और क्रोध से फाड़ी हुई (विस्फारित) आँखों वाले उस (लक्ष्मण) को... (अगले श्लोक से जारी)।
English Commentary
Here begins Sarga 22. The focus shifts entirely to Lakshmana's reaction. Despite Rama's previous advice, Lakshmana is described as amarṣitam (indignant/intolerant of the injustice). The imagery is reptilian and fierce: he is breathing heavily (śvasantam) like a Naga Indram (King Cobra), and his eyes are dilated with fury (roṣa visphārita īkṣaṇam). This visual description captures the raw, kinetic energy of Lakshmana, who is ready to strike at the injustice done to his brother. It sets the stage for Rama to administer a more philosophical cooling balm in the following verses.

सर्ग 22 का प्रारंभ लक्ष्मण के रौद्र रूप के चित्रण से होता है। राम के शांत वचनों का लक्ष्मण पर अभी पूर्ण प्रभाव नहीं पड़ा है। वे 'अमर्षितम्' (असहिष्णु/गुस्से में) हैं। वाल्मीकि जी लक्ष्मण की तुलना 'नागेन्द्र' (कोबरा/सर्पराज) से करते हैं। जैसे सांप फुफकारता है ('श्वसन्तम्'), वैसे ही लक्ष्मण क्रोध में गहरी सांसे ले रहे हैं। उनकी आँखें 'रोष विस्फारित' (गुस्से से फटी हुई) हैं। यह उपमा लक्ष्मण के चरित्र—शेषनाग के अवतार—की ओर भी संकेत करती है। राम की स्थिरता के सामने लक्ष्मण का यह उग्र रूप एक नाटकीय विरोधाभास प्रस्तुत करता है।
