Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तस्य अपि हि भवेद् अस्मिन् कर्मणि अप्रतिसम्हृते ।
सत्यम् न इति मनः तापः तस्य तापः तपेच् च माम् ॥ ॥२-२२-१०॥
Tasya api hi bhaved asmin karmaṇi apratisamhṛte । Satyam na iti manaḥ tāpaḥ tasya tāpaḥ tapec ca mām ॥ ॥2-22-10॥
Translation
For if this activity (coronation) is not withdrawn, there will arise a burning distress in his mind that "Truth is lost." And that distress of his will burn me as well.
हिंदी अनुवाद
यदि इस कार्य (राज्याभिषेक समारोह) को नहीं समेटा गया, तो उनके (पिता के) मन में यह संताप होगा कि 'सत्य नहीं रहा' (वचन पूरा नहीं हुआ)। और उनका वह संताप मुझे भी जलाएगा।
English Commentary
Rama explains the reciprocal nature of his bond with his father. If the coronation proceeds (apratisamhṛte - un-withdrawn), Dasharatha will suffer the mental agony (manaḥ tāpaḥ) of being a liar ("Truth is not kept"). Rama declares that this heat/agony of his father will burn him (tapec ca mām) too. He cannot enjoy a throne that acts as a bed of coals for his father’s conscience. Rama’s decision is thus driven by a desire to avoid the shared psychological torment that would arise from violating the vow.
हिंदी टीका
राम यहाँ सहानुभूति (Empathy) के उच्चतम स्तर पर हैं। वे कहते हैं कि यदि मैं गद्दी पर बैठ गया, तो पिता को यह पीड़ा होगी कि उनका सत्य नष्ट हो गया। राम कहते हैं—'तस्य तापः तपेच् च माम्' (उनका संताप मुझे भी जलाएगा)। अर्थात, पिता का दुःख पुत्र का दुःख बन जाएगा। राम भौतिक सुख (राज्य) का भोग नहीं कर सकते यदि वह पिता की मानसिक शांति की कीमत पर मिले। वे शारीरिक कष्ट (वनवास) सहना पसंद करेंगे, बजाय इसके कि वे पिता की आत्मा को जलता हुआ देखें। यह श्लोक बताता है कि राम का वनवास पिता के प्रति उनके अगाध प्रेम और भावनात्मक जुड़ाव का परिणाम है।
