Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सत्यः सत्य अभिसम्धः च नित्यम् सत्य पराक्रमः ।
पर लोक भयात् भीतः निर्भयो अस्तु पिता मम ॥ ॥२-२२-९॥
Satyaḥ satya abhisamdhaḥ ca nityam satya parākramaḥ । Para loka bhayāt bhītaḥ nirbhayo astu pitā mama ॥ ॥2-22-9॥
Translation
May my father—who is truthful, true to his vows, and ever truly valorous—become fearless regarding the fear of the other world (which he currently dreads due to the risk of breaking his word).

मेरे पिता, जो सत्यस्वरूप हैं, सत्य प्रतिज्ञा वाले हैं और सदा सत्य पराक्रमी हैं; वे परलोक के भय (असत्य भाषण के पाप) से डरे हुए हैं। वे (मेरे वन जाने से) निर्भय हो जाएँ।
English Commentary
Rama identifies the spiritual stakes. He describes Dasharatha with adjectives emphasizing truth: satyaḥ (truthful), satya abhisamdhaḥ (bound by truth), satya parākramaḥ (whose valor is truth). Currently, however, Dasharatha is terrified (bhītaḥ) of paraloka bhayāt—the fear of the afterlife. In the Vedic worldview, breaking a solemn vow destroys one’s merit and future beatitude. Rama wishes to act so that his father becomes nirbhayo (fearless). By accepting the exile, Rama ensures Dasharatha keeps his word, thereby securing his father's spiritual safety and peace in the next world.

राम यहाँ अपने वनवास का मुख्य उद्देश्य बताते हैं: पिता को 'निर्भय' करना। दशरथ 'सत्य-अभिसंध' (सत्य प्रतिज्ञा वाले) हैं, लेकिन अभी वे संकट में हैं। यदि राम वन नहीं जाते, तो दशरथ की प्रतिज्ञा टूट जाएगी, और शास्त्रों के अनुसार, वचन भंग करने वाले को 'परलोक' (मृत्यु के बाद) में नरक या दुर्गति का भय होता है। राम कहते हैं कि उनके पिता अभी 'परलोक भयात् भीतः' (परलोक के डर से डरे हुए) हैं। राम का कर्तव्य है कि वे वन जाकर पिता के वचन को सत्य सिद्ध करें, ताकि दशरथ इस भय से मुक्त हो सकें। यह पुत्र द्वारा पिता की आध्यात्मिक रक्षा है।
