Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
कृत अन्तः तु एव सौमित्रे द्रष्टव्यो मत् प्रवासने ।
राज्यस्य च वितीर्णस्य पुनर् एव निवर्तने ॥२-२२-१५॥
kṛta antaḥ tu eva saumitre draṣṭavyo mat pravāsane । rājyasya ca vitīrṇasya punar eva nivartane ॥2-22-15॥
Translation
O Sumitranandan (Lakshmana)! You must view Destiny alone as the cause behind my exile and the retraction of the kingdom that was previously offered to me.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे सुमित्रानंदन! मेरे वनवास में और दिए गए राज्य के पुनः वापस ले लिए जाने में तुम्हें केवल दैव (प्रारब्ध) को ही कारण समझना चाहिए।
English Commentary
Here, Shri Rama presents a profound philosophical perspective to pacify Lakshmana's anger. He identifies "Kritanta" (Destiny or the End-maker) as the sole cause behind the unfolding events. Rama asserts that the granting of the kingdom and its sudden retraction, followed by the order of exile, are not merely results of human conspiracy but the workings of Divine Will. He instructs Lakshmana that looking at immediate causes (like Kaikeyi) breeds anger, whereas recognizing the hand of Destiny brings acceptance. This verse highlights Rama's stoicism and his ability to remain detached amidst drastic life changes.

यहाँ श्रीराम लक्ष्मण के क्रोध को शांत करने के लिए एक अत्यंत गंभीर दार्शनिक दृष्टिकोण प्रस्तुत करते हैं। वे "कृतांत" (दैव या नियति) को ही सभी घटनाओं का एकमात्र कारण बताते हैं। श्रीराम का मानना है कि राज्य का मिलना और फिर अचानक छिन जाना, तथा वनवास का आदेश—ये सब सामान्य मानवीय षड्यंत्र नहीं, बल्कि विधाता का विधान है। वे लक्ष्मण को समझाते हैं कि जब मनुष्य केवल बाह्य कारणों (जैसे कैकेयी या दशरथ) को देखता है, तो उसे क्रोध आता है, लेकिन जब वह इन घटनाओं के पीछे छिपी नियति को देखता है, तो उसे शांति मिलती है। यह श्लोक श्रीराम की स्थितप्रज्ञता को दर्शाता है।
