असम्क्ल्पितमेवेह यदकस्मात् प्रवर्तते ।
निवर्त्यारम्भमारब्धम् ननु दैवस्य कर्म तत् ॥२-२२-२४॥
asamkalpitameveha yadakasmāt pravartate । nivartyārambhamārabdham nanu daivasya karma tat ॥2-22-24॥
Translation
That which occurs suddenly in this world without any prior intention, and that which halts an undertaking already begun—that is indeed the work of Destiny.
हिंदी अनुवाद
इस जगत में जो कार्य बिना संकल्प के ही अचानक उपस्थित हो जाता है और जो आरम्भ किए हुए कार्य को रोक देता है, निश्चय ही वह दैव का कर्म है।
English Commentary
Shri Rama provides a practical identification of Daiva here. It has two characteristics: 1) The sudden occurrence of the unexpected, and 2) The abrupt halting of a well-planned undertaking. The coronation was fully prepared (the started work), but the order for exile came suddenly (the unexpected event). Rama posits that this is the precise signature of Destiny. When events unfold entirely contrary to human planning, one must recognize it as the intervention of Providence rather than mere human error.

यहाँ श्रीराम 'दैव' की व्यावहारिक पहचान बताते हैं। दो लक्षण हैं: १) अनपेक्षित घटना का अचानक घटित होना, और २) पूरी तैयारी के साथ शुरू किए गए कार्य का अचानक रुक जाना। राज्याभिषेक की पूरी तैयारी हो चुकी थी (आरम्भ कार्य), लेकिन अचानक वनवास का आदेश आ गया (अनपेक्षित घटना)। श्रीराम कहते हैं कि यह सटीक परिभाषा है दैव की। जब सब कुछ योजना के विपरीत हो जाए, तो समझ लेना चाहिए कि यह मनुष्य का नहीं, विधाता का हस्तक्षेप है।
