अथवा किम् ममैतेन राजद्रव्यमयेन तु ।
उद्धृतम् मे स्वयम् तो यम् व्रतादेशम् करिष्यति ॥२-२२-२८॥
athavā kim mamaitena rājadravyamayena tu । uddhṛtam me svayam to yam vratādeśam kariṣyati ॥2-22-28॥
Translation
Or rather, what need have I for this water which belongs to the royal treasury? Water drawn by my own hands will serve to initiate my vows.
हिंदी अनुवाद
अथवा, राज-सामग्री से युक्त इस जल से मुझे क्या प्रयोजन? मेरे द्वारा स्वयं निकाला हुआ जल ही मेरे वनवास के व्रत की दीक्षा के लिए उपयुक्त होगा।
English Commentary
Shri Rama immediately corrects his previous thought, displaying the subtlety of his renunciation (Vairagya). He realizes that the coronation water is 'royal property,' and since he is renouncing the kingdom, he should not use it. An ascetic must be self-reliant. Thus, he decides to fetch his own water. This reflects the highest standard of ethics; he refuses to utilize resources that technically no longer belong to him, emphasizing that his new life must begin with self-effort rather than royal privilege.

पिछले श्लोक में श्रीराम ने राज्याभिषेक के जल का उपयोग करने की बात की थी, लेकिन तुरंत ही वे अपनी बात सुधार लेते हैं। यह "वैराग्य" की सूक्ष्मता है। उन्हें विचार आता है कि अभिषेक का जल "राज-द्रव्य" (राज्य की संपत्ति) है, और अब जब वे राज्य त्याग रहे हैं, तो उस पर उनका अधिकार नहीं। एक तपस्वी को स्वावलंबी होना चाहिए, इसलिए वे स्वयं जल भरकर अपना अभिषेक करने का निर्णय लेते हैं। यह श्रीराम की नैतिकता (Ethics) का सर्वोच्च स्तर है—वे उस वस्तु का उपयोग भी नहीं करना चाहते जो तकनीकी रूप से अब उनकी नहीं है।
