Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
येन इयम् आगता द्वैधम् तव बुद्धिर् मही पते ।
स हि धर्मः मम द्वेष्यः प्रसन्गात् यस्य मुह्यसि ॥२-२३-११॥
yena iyam āgatā dvaidham tava buddhir mahī pate । sa hi dharmaḥ mama dveṣyaḥ prasangāt yasya muhyasi ॥2-23-11॥
Translation
O Lord of the Earth! I indeed hate that "Dharma" which has caused your intellect to become conflicted, and by attachment to which you are being deluded.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे पृथ्वीपति! जिस 'धर्म' के कारण आपकी बुद्धि इस प्रकार दुविधा और भ्रम में पड़ गई है, मैं उस धर्म से घृणा करता हूँ, जिसके प्रसंग (पालन) से आप मोहित (विवेकहीन) हो रहे हैं।
English Commentary
This is a bold theological rebellion. Lakshmana explicitly states he hates the "Dharma" that renders Rama confused and passive. If adherence to duty leads to injustice and weakness, Lakshmana rejects it. By addressing Rama as Mahipate (Lord of the Earth), he subtly reminds Rama that his primary Dharma is to rule and protect the earth, not to wander in the forest due to a misplaced sense of filial piety.

यह एक अत्यंत साहसी कथन है। लक्ष्मण खुले तौर पर उस "धर्म" को नकारते हैं जो मनुष्य को कमजोर बनाता है। यदि पितृ-भक्ति का परिणाम अन्याय सहना और वन जाना है, तो लक्ष्मण की दृष्टि में वह धर्म नहीं, बल्कि "द्वेष्य" (घृणा के योग्य) है। वे श्रीराम को "महीपते" (पृथ्वी के स्वामी) कहकर संबोधित करते हैं, यह याद दिलाने के लिए कि उनका धर्म प्रजा की रक्षा करना है, न कि एक वृद्ध पिता की अनुचित बात मानकर वन में भटकना।
