यद्य् अपि प्रतिपत्तिस् ते दैवी च अपि तयोः मतम् ।
तथा अपि उपेक्षणीयम् ते न मे तत् अपि रोचते ॥२-२३-१३॥
yady api pratipattis te daivī ca api tayoḥ matam । tathā api upekṣaṇīyam te na me tat api rocate ॥2-23-13॥
Translation
Even if you believe this to be Destiny and the will of those two, it still deserves to be disregarded by you; it does not please me in the least.
हिंदी अनुवाद
यद्यपि आपकी बुद्धि में यह सब दैव-कृत है और उन दोनों (माता-पिता) का मत है, तथापि यह उपेक्षा करने (ठुकरा देने) योग्य ही है; मुझे यह तनिक भी पसंद नहीं है।
English Commentary
Lakshmana directly counters Rama’s fatalism. He argues, "Even if I grant that this is Destiny or parental will, it should still be ignored." Lakshmana’s philosophy is pragmatic: if Fate or authority leads to ruin/injustice, active rejection (upekshaniyam) is the correct response, not submission. He refuses to endorse a passivity that leads to self-destruction.

लक्ष्मण श्रीराम के "दैव" वाले तर्क का सीधा उत्तर देते हैं। वे कहते हैं, "मान लिया कि यह दैव है, फिर भी इसे स्वीकार नहीं करना चाहिए।" लक्ष्मण का दर्शन यह है कि यदि भाग्य या माता-पिता का आदेश विनाशकारी हो, तो उसकी "उपेक्षा" (Ignore) करना ही सही मार्ग है। अंधभक्ति या भाग्यवाद का विरोध करते हुए वे कहते हैं कि विनाश को गले लगाना बुद्धिमानी नहीं है।
