अत्यन्कुशम् इव उद्दामम् गजम् मद बल उद्धतम् ।
प्रधावितम् अहम् दैवम् पौरुषेण निवर्तये ॥२-२३-२०॥
atyankuśam iva uddāmam gajam mada bala uddhatam । pradhāvitam aham daivam pauruṣeṇa nivartaye ॥2-23-20॥
Translation
Just as an unrestrained, furious elephant, arrogant with the power of rut and defying the goad, is turned back, so shall I turn back this onrushing Destiny with my prowess.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जैसे अंकुश की परवाह न करने वाले, बंधन मुक्त और मद के बल से उद्दंड हुए दौड़ते हाथी को रोका जाता है, वैसे ही मैं अपनी ओर झपटते हुए उस दैव को अपने पौरुष से पीछे लौटा दूंगा।
English Commentary
Lakshmana employs a powerful metaphor. He likens Destiny to a rogue elephant (Gajam)—uncontrollable, arrogant, and rushing to destroy. Lakshmana positions himself as the superior force capable of turning back this beast purely through Paurusha (valor/effort). He assures Rama that he need not fear this "elephant" of Fate, for Lakshmana possesses the strength to tame it and reverse its course.

लक्ष्मण एक सशक्त रूपक (Metaphor) का प्रयोग करते हैं। दैव एक "मद्मस्त हाथी" की तरह है जो सब कुछ कुचलने आ रहा है। लक्ष्मण कहते हैं कि वे उस महावत की तरह हैं जो इस बेकाबू हाथी को भी अपने बल से मोड़ देगा। "पौरुषेण निवर्तये" (पौरुष से लौटा दूंगा)—यह लक्ष्मण की प्रतिज्ञा है। वे श्रीराम को आश्वस्त कर रहे हैं कि भयभीत होने की आवश्यकता नहीं है, उनका छोटा भाई काल (समय/भाग्य) की गति को भी बदलने में सक्षम है।
