यैः विवासः तव अरण्ये मिथो राजन् समर्थितः ।
अरण्ये तु विवत्स्यन्ति चतुर् दश समाः तथा ॥२-२३-२२॥
yaiḥ vivāsaḥ tava araṇye mitho rājan samarthitaḥ |
araṇye tu vivatsyanti catur daśa samāḥ tathā ॥2-23-22॥
Translation
O King! Those who have secretly conspired to support your exile to the forest shall themselves dwell in the forest for fourteen years in that very manner.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राजन! जिन लोगों ने मिलकर आपके वनवास का समर्थन या षड्यंत्र किया है, वे स्वयं उसी प्रकार चौदह वर्षों तक वन में निवास करेंगे।
English Commentary
Here, Lakshmana alludes to Kaikeyi and her supporters (potentially implying Bharata, as per his suspicion at the time). This is Lakshmana’s fury speaking the language of retribution. He cannot bear the thought of the righteous Rama living in the forest while the conspirators enjoy the luxuries of the palace. Lakshmana’s statement serves as a threat that he will turn the tables on those who plotted against Rama. He intends to use force to reverse the situation—meaning, those who wish to banish Rama will themselves be banished, and Rama will be installed on the throne. This reflects the fiery aspect of the Kshatriya code, which believes in swift retaliation against injustice, ensuring that the perpetrators suffer the very fate they intended for the innocent.
