खड्ग निष्पेष निष्पिष्टैः गहना दुश्चरा च मे ।
हस्ति अश्व नर हस्त ऊरु शिरोभिर् भविता मही ॥२-२३-३३॥
khadga niṣpeṣa niṣpiṣṭaiḥ gahanā duścarā ca me |
hasti aśva nara hasta ūru śirobhir bhavitā mahī ॥2-23-33॥
Translation
The earth will become impassable and difficult to traverse, covered with the trunks, thighs, and heads of elephants, horses, and men, severed by the crushing blows of my sword.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मेरी तलवार के प्रहारों से कटे हुए हाथी, घोड़े और मनुष्यों के हाथों, जांघों और सिरों से यह पृथ्वी पट जाएगी (भर जाएगी), जिससे इस पर चलना भी कठिन हो जाएगा।
English Commentary
Lakshmana’s anger here transitions into a mix of Raudra (fury) and Vibhatsa (macabre) rasas. He paints a graphic picture of the battlefield. He is not merely talking about defeating enemies but describing their destruction in such vivid detail that it evokes terror. The words gahana (thick/crowded) and duschara (impassable) imply that the slaughter will be so immense that there will be no space left on the ground to walk. This verse reflects Lakshmana’s mental state—he is so deeply wounded by the news of Rama’s exile that he is prepared to turn Ayodhya into a graveyard if it stands in the way of Rama’s rights.

लक्ष्मण जी का क्रोध अब वीभत्स रस और रौद्र रस में परिवर्तित हो रहा है। वे युद्धभूमि का एक भयावह चित्र खींच रहे हैं। वे केवल शत्रुओं को हराने की बात नहीं कर रहे, बल्कि उनके विनाश का इतना ग्राफिक (सजीव) वर्णन कर रहे हैं कि सुनने वाले के रोंगटे खड़े हो जाएं। 'गहना' और 'दुश्चरा' शब्द बताते हैं कि वे इतनी भारी संख्या में संहार करेंगे कि धरती पर पैर रखने की जगह नहीं बचेगी। यह श्लोक लक्ष्मण की मानसिक स्थिति को दर्शाता है—वे श्रीराम के वनवास की बात सुनकर इतने आहत हैं कि वे पूरी अयोध्या को श्मशान बनाने के लिए तैयार हैं यदि वह श्रीराम के अधिकार के रास्ते में आती है।
