Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विम्Rज्य बाष्पम् परिसान्त्व्य च असकृत् ।
स लक्ष्मणम् राघव वम्श वर्धनः ।
उवाच पित्र्ये वचने व्यवस्थितम् ।
निबोध माम् एष हि सौम्य सत् पथः ॥२-२३-४१॥
vimṛjya bāṣpam parisāntvya ca asakṛt |
sa lakṣmaṇam rāghava vamśa vardhanaḥ |
uvāca pitrye vacane vyavasthitam |
nibodha mām eṣa hi saumya sat pathaḥ ॥2-23-41॥
Translation
Then, wiping away Lakshmana's tears and consoling him repeatedly, Rama, the promoter of the Raghu lineage, said, "O gentle one! Know me to be firmly established in our father's command, for this indeed is the righteous path."
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब रघुकुल को बढ़ाने वाले श्रीराम ने लक्ष्मण के आँसू पोंछकर और उन्हें बार-बार सांत्वना देकर कहा, "हे सौम्य! तुम मुझे पिता के वचन पर दृढ़ता से स्थित समझो; क्योंकि यही सत्पथ (धर्म का मार्ग) है।"
English Commentary
This verse concludes Sarga 23. Rama meets Lakshmana’s raging storm with profound peace and affection. Instead of rebuking Lakshmana for his violent threats, Rama acts as an elder brother and guardian, wiping away his tears (vimrjya bashpam). Rama understands that Lakshmana’s fury stems from deep love. The epithet Raghava vamsha vardhanah (enhancer of the Raghu lineage) is significant—Rama elevates the lineage not by rebellion, but by upholding the father's word. Addressing Lakshmana as Soumya (gentle one), Rama calms him, firmly asserting that the true path (Sat Patha) lies in obedience, not violence.

यहाँ सर्ग 23 समाप्त होता है। लक्ष्मण के उग्र तूफान का सामना राम अपनी शांति और प्रेम से करते हैं। राम लक्ष्मण के तर्कों का खंडन क्रोध से नहीं करते, बल्कि एक बड़े भाई और अभिभावक की तरह उनके आँसू पोंछते हैं (विमृज्य बाष्पम्)। राम जानते हैं कि लक्ष्मण का क्रोध उनके प्रति प्रेम से उपजा है। 'राघव वंश वर्धनः' विशेषण यहाँ महत्वपूर्ण है—राम वंश की मर्यादा को तोड़ने वाले नहीं, बल्कि उसे बढ़ाने वाले हैं, जो पिता की आज्ञा पालन से ही संभव है। राम लक्ष्मण को 'सौम्य' (कोमल स्वभाव वाला) कहकर शांत करते हैं और उन्हें याद दिलाते हैं कि हिंसा नहीं, बल्कि सत्य (पिता का वचन) ही असली रास्ता है।
