evam uktaḥ tu vacanam rāmaḥ dharmabhṛtām varaḥ । bhūyaḥ tām abravīd vākyam mātaram bhṛśa duhkhitām ॥ ॥2-24-14॥

Translation

Having been spoken to thus (having received her agreement), Rama, the foremost among the upholders of Dharma, spoke again to his deeply sorrowful mother.

English Commentary

Although Kausalya has agreed, her sorrow remains intense ('bhrisha duhkhitam'). Rama, described as 'Dharmabhritam varah' (best among those who uphold Dharma), realizes that mere agreement is not enough; his mother needs further consolation and clear direction to sustain her resolve. He does not abruptly end the conversation but speaks again to reinforce the principles of duty. This verse acts as a bridge, showing Rama's compassion; he acknowledges her pain even as he prepares to deliver his final instructions regarding her conduct towards the King and the hierarchy of the family.
