English Commentary
Rama continues his defense of Bharata's character to allay his mother's fears. He asserts that Bharata, being ever devoted to Dharma, will undoubtedly serve and obey Kausalya ('anuvarteta'). This is significant because Rama bears no ill will toward the brother who replaces him; rather, he vouches for his integrity. The second half of the verse shifts the focus to the most critical immediate reality: the condition of King Dasharatha. The phrase 'putra sokena parthivah' (the King, grief-stricken for his son) introduces the main reason why Kausalya cannot leave. Rama implies that abandoning the King in such a fragile emotional state would be catastrophic. He begins to place the burden of the King's life on Kausalya's shoulders.
