नन्दयिष्यसि माम् पुत्रः साम्ना वाक्येन चारुणा ।
अपीदानीम् स कालः स्याद्वनात्प्रत्यागतम् पुनः ॥२-२४-३६॥
nandayiṣyasi mām putraḥ sāmnā vākyena cāruṇā |
apīdānīm sa kālaḥ syādvanātpratyāgatam punaḥ ॥2-24-36॥
Translation
O son, you will delight me with your soothing and beautiful words (upon your return). Would that the time were already here when you have returned from the forest!
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे पुत्र! (लौटने पर) तुम अपने मधुर और सुंदर वचनों से मुझे आनंदित करोगे। क्या वह समय अब (शीघ्र) आएगा जब तुम वन से पुनः वापस आओगे?
English Commentary
In these final moments before departure, Kausalya's mind jumps ahead to the reunion. She longs for the day when Rama will again delight her with his 'samna' (soothing) and 'caruna' (beautiful) speech. The phrase 'api idanim sa kalah syad' (If only that time were now!) reveals her desperation and impatience. The prospect of fourteen years feels infinite, and she wishes for the exile to be over before it has even begun. It captures the poignant duality of a mother's farewell—accepting the departure while simultaneously yearning for the return.

विदाई के अंतिम क्षणों में कौशल्या का मन अधीर हो उठता है। अभी राम गए भी नहीं हैं, और वह उनके लौटने की कल्पना करने लगती हैं। वह राम के 'चारुणा वाक्येन' (सुंदर/मधुर वचनों) को सुनने के लिए लालायित हैं। 'अपीदानीम् स कालः स्यात्' (काश वह समय अभी होता/आ जाए) उनकी व्याकुलता को दर्शाता है। यह एक माँ का हृदय है जो चौदह वर्षों की लंबी अवधि की कल्पना मात्र से घबरा रहा है और चाहता है कि यह समय पलक झपकते ही बीत जाए। यह श्लोक आशा और विरह की वेदना का मिश्रित रूप है।
