Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अयम् तु मामात्मभवस्तवादर्शनमारुतः ।
विलापदुःखसमिधो रुदिताश्रुहुताहुतिः ॥ ॥२-२४-६॥
ayam tu māmātmabhavastavādarśanamārutaḥ । vilāpaduḥkhasamidho ruditāśruhutāhutiḥ ॥ ॥2-24-6॥
Translation
This fire of grief arising within me is fanned by the wind of your absence. My lamentations and sorrow are the firewood (fuel), and my shedding tears are the oblations poured into it.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मेरे मन में उत्पन्न यह (शोक रूपी) अग्नि, तुम्हारी अनुपस्थिति रूपी वायु से प्रज्वलित है। मेरा विलाप और दुःख इसकी समिधा (ईंधन) हैं, और मेरे गिरते हुए आँसू ही इसमें डाली गई आहुति हैं।
English Commentary
This verse employs a powerful metaphor, comparing Kausalya's internal grief to a raging sacrificial fire. Just as a fire needs wind, fuel, and oblations to burn, her sorrow is sustained by specific elements: Rama's absence acts as the wind that fans the flames, her lamentations serve as the firewood, and her flowing tears are the oblations poured into the fire. This poetic description visualizes the consuming nature of her agony. It illustrates that her suffering is an active, burning process fueled by her love and the impending separation, indicating a pain that destroys her from the inside out.

इस श्लोक में एक अत्यंत मार्मिक रूपक (Metaphor) का प्रयोग किया गया है। कौशल्या अपने भीतर जल रही पीड़ा को एक 'यज्ञ' या 'अग्नि' के रूप में वर्णित करती हैं। जैसे अग्नि को जलने के लिए वायु, ईंधन और आहुति की आवश्यकता होती है, वैसे ही उनके शोक की अग्नि राम के वियोग (वायु) से भड़क रही है। उनका निरंतर रोना और विलाप उस अग्नि का भोजन (समिधा) बन गया है। यह चित्रण माता की मानसिक और शारीरिक पीड़ा की तीव्रता को दर्शाता है। वे कहती हैं कि यह अदृश्य अग्नि उन्हें भीतर ही भीतर जला रही है, जो किसी बाहरी शस्त्र के घाव से अधिक कष्टदायक है।
