Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सप्त ऋषयो नारदः च ते त्वाम् रक्षन्तु सर्वतः ।
याश्चापि सर्वतः सिद्दा दिश्श्च सदिगीश्वराः ॥२-२५-१२॥
sapta ṛṣayo nāradaḥ ca te tvām rakṣantu sarvataḥ |
yāścāpi sarvataḥ siddā diśśca sadigīśvarāḥ ॥2-25-12॥
Translation
May the Seven Sages and Narada protect you on all sides. May the directions, which are renowned everywhere, along with the Lords of the directions, protect you.
हिंदी अनुवाद
सप्तर्षि और नारद सब ओर से तुम्हारी रक्षा करें। जो दिशाएं सब ओर सिद्ध (प्रसिद्ध) हैं, वे अपने स्वामियों (दिगीश्वरों) सहित तुम्हारी रक्षा करें।
English Commentary
Kausalya expands the protective circle to include the 'Saptarishis' (Seven Great Sages) and Sage Narada. Since Rama will be living an ascetic life, the blessings of these supreme ascetics are paramount. She then invokes the 'Dishas' (Four Quarters/Directions) and their 'Digishvaras' (Guardian Deities like Indra, Yama, etc.). This is known as Digbandhana in ritual practice—sealing the directions to prevent evil from entering from any side. Whether Rama travels North, South, East, or West, Kausalya ensures a guardian deity stands watch over that vector.

कौशल्या ऋषियों में श्रेष्ठ 'सप्तर्षियों' और देवर्षि 'नारद' का स्मरण करती हैं। नारद का उल्लेख इसलिए महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि वे तीनों लोकों में भ्रमण करते हैं और राम के सहायक हो सकते हैं। इसके बाद 'दिशः' (दिशाओं) और 'दिगीश्वरों' (दिक्पाल जैसे इंद्र, यम, वरुण, कुबेर आदि) का आह्वान है। वन में दिशा भ्रम होने का भय रहता है, और हर दिशा से खतरा आ सकता है। इसलिए माता 'सर्वतः' (सब ओर से) सुरक्षा मांग रही हैं। यह एक 'दिग्बंधन' (दिशाओं को बांधने वाला) रक्षा कवच है, ताकि राम जिधर भी जाएं, सुरक्षित रहें।
