अहरात्रे तथा सन्ध्ये पान्तु त्वाम् वनमाश्रितम् ।
ऋतवश्चैव ष्ट्पुण्या मासाः सम्वत्सरास्तथा ॥ ॥२-२५-१५॥
Ahorātre tathā sandhye pāntu tvām vanamāśritam । Ṛtavaścaiva ṣṭpuṇyā māsāḥ samvatsarāstathā ॥ ॥2-25-15॥
Translation
O Son! May the day and night, as well as the morning and evening twilights, protect you while you dwell in the forest. May the six holy seasons, the months, and the years ensure your safety.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे पुत्र! तुम्हारे वन में रहने के दौरान दिन-रात और दोनों संध्याएं तुम्हारी रक्षा करें। छः पवित्र ऋतुएं, सभी मास और संवत्सर (वर्ष) भी तुम्हारी सुरक्षा करें।
English Commentary
In this verse, Queen Kausalya invokes the protection of Time itself. Recognizing that Rama faces a fourteen-year exile, she breaks down time into its constituent parts—days, nights, twilights (Sandhya), seasons, months, and years—asking each to be benevolent. In Vedic thought, Time (Kala) is a potent force that governs destiny. By praying to these temporal units, Kausalya seeks to ensure that the harsh passage of time in the wilderness treats her son gently. It highlights her maternal anxiety regarding the elements, as the 'six seasons' imply the changing weather conditions (heat, monsoon, winter) that Rama will have to endure without the comforts of a palace.

माता कौशल्या यहाँ 'काल' (समय) के विभिन्न आयामों से राम की सुरक्षा की प्रार्थना कर रही हैं। हिंदू दर्शन में समय को अत्यंत शक्तिशाली माना गया है। माता जानती हैं कि राम को चौदह वर्षों तक वन में रहना है, जो एक लंबी अवधि है। इसलिए, वे समय की हर इकाई—चाहे वह छोटा 'अहोरात्र' (दिन-रात) हो, 'संध्या' (संक्रमण काल) हो, या दीर्घ 'संवत्सर' (वर्ष) हो—का आह्वान करती हैं। यह श्लोक दर्शाता है कि एक माँ की चिंता कितनी सूक्ष्म होती है; वह चाहती हैं कि समय का हर पल राम के अनुकूल हो। वन का जीवन नगर के जीवन से भिन्न होता है, जहाँ ऋतुओं का प्रभाव कठोर होता है, अतः ऋतओं और मासों से अनुकूलता की विनती की गई है।
