Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
क्रव्यादानाम् च सर्वेषम् माभूत्पुत्रक ते भयम् ।
प्लवगा वृश्चिका दम्शा मशकाः चैव कानने ॥ ॥२-२५-१८॥
Kravyādānām ca sarveṣam mābhūtputraka te bhayam । Plavagā vṛścikā damśā maśakāḥ caiva kānane ॥ ॥2-25-18॥
Translation
O dear son! May you have no fear of any flesh-eating creatures. May you be safe from monkeys (or jumping creatures), scorpions, biting insects, and mosquitoes in the forest.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे पुत्र! तुम्हें किसी भी प्रकार के मांसाहारी जीवों से भय न हो। वन में बंदरों (या उछलने वाले जीवों), बिच्छुओं, काटने वाले कीड़ों और मच्छरों से भी तुम सुरक्षित रहो।
English Commentary
This verse illustrates the microscopic detail of a mother's love. Moving from cosmic demons, Kausalya worries about the mundane irritants and dangers of forest life: scorpions (Vrischika), mosquitoes (Mashaka), and biting insects. The term Kravyadanam refers to carnivorous beasts, representing lethal danger, while the insects represent constant physical discomfort. Kausalya prays that Rama be spared from both terror and irritation. It humanizes the epic narrative—Rama is an Avatar, but to his mother, he is a son who might be bitten by a mosquito or scorpion, and she seeks to invoke divine protection against these very physical, earthly nuisances.

यह श्लोक कौशल्या के वात्सल्य का अति सुंदर उदाहरण है। कहाँ तो वह देवताओं और दैत्यों की बात कर रही थीं, और कहाँ अब वह मच्छरों (मशक) और बिच्छुओं (वृश्चिक) की चिंता कर रही हैं। यह 'माइक्रो-मैनेजमेंट' केवल एक माँ ही कर सकती है। वह जानती हैं कि जंगल में सिर्फ बड़े राक्षस ही नहीं, बल्कि छोटे जीव भी कष्ट का कारण बनते हैं। 'क्रव्याद' का अर्थ है कच्चा मांस खाने वाले हिंसक जीव। कौशल्या चाहती हैं कि राम को न तो बड़े हिंसक पशुओं का भय हो और न ही छोटे विषैले कीड़ों का कष्ट। यह प्रार्थना यथार्थवाद के धरातल पर है, जो वन जीवन की शारीरिक चुनौतियों को रेखांकित करती है।
