हावयामास विधिना राममङ्गलकारणात् ।
घृतम् श्वेतानि माल्यानि समिधः श्वेतसर्षपान् ॥ ॥२-२५-२८॥
Hāvayāmāsa vidhinā rāmamaṅgalakāraṇāt । Ghṛtam śvetāni mālyāni samidhaḥ śvetasarṣapān ॥ ॥2-25-28॥
Translation
For the sake of Rama's welfare, she caused oblations to be offered in accordance with the scriptures, consisting of clarified butter (ghee), white garlands, wood for fuel, and white mustard seeds.

राम के मंगल (कल्याण) के निमित्त उन्होंने विधिपूर्वक घी, श्वेत पुष्पों की मालाएं, समिधा (यज्ञ की लकड़ियाँ) और सफेद सरसों की आहुति दिलवाई।
English Commentary
The specific ingredients chosen for the oblation are symbolic. Ghritam (Ghee) represents nourishment and fuel for life. The emphasis on 'white' items—white garlands and white mustard seeds (Sveta sarshapan)—is significant. White signifies purity and peace (Sattva). In Indian ritual tradition, white mustard seeds are specifically believed to possess protective properties that repel evil spirits and negative energies. Kausalya’s choice of these materials reveals her intent: she is not just asking for blessings but actively creating a protective shield against malevolence through these ritual offerings.
