Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
उपसम्पादयामास कौसल्या पमाङ्गना ।
उपाध्यायः स विधिना हुत्व शान्तिमनामयम् ॥ ॥२-२५-२९॥
Upasampādayāmāsa kausalyā pamāṅganā । Upādhyāyaḥ sa vidhinā hutva śāntimanāmayam ॥ ॥2-25-29॥
Translation
Kausalya, of excellent limbs, procured the necessary materials, and the Preceptor performed the Homa according to the rites to ensure unbroken peace and health for Rama.

उत्तम अंगों वाली कौशल्या ने हवन की सामग्री जुटाई और उपाध्याय (पुरोहित) ने विधिपूर्वक हवन करके राम के लिए निरामय (रोग-दोष रहित) शांति की कामना की।
English Commentary
This verse delineates the roles in the ritual: Kausalya acts as the facilitator (Yajmana), gathering the materials, while the Upadhyaya (Preceptor) acts as the officiant. The goal of the ritual is specific: Shantim anamayam. Shanti implies peace of mind and environment, while Anamayam specifically refers to a state free from disease or physical affliction. Given that Rama is heading into a jungle with no medical aid, invoking divine intervention for his health is a critical aspect of Kausalya's maternal foresight.

यहाँ माता और पुरोहित के बीच के समन्वय को दिखाया गया है। कौशल्या 'उपसम्पादयामास' (सामग्री जुटाने वाली) हैं, जो उनकी सक्रिय भागीदारी को दर्शाता है; वह केवल आदेश नहीं दे रहीं, बल्कि सेवा कर रही हैं। पुरोहित ने 'शान्तिम् अनामयम्' के लिए हवन किया। 'अनामय' का अर्थ है रोग और कष्ट से रहित अवस्था। वन में चिकित्सा का अभाव होगा, इसलिए स्वास्थ्य और मानसिक शांति की यह प्रार्थना अत्यंत व्यावहारिक है। कौशल्या की शारीरिक सुंदरता (पमाङ्गना) का उल्लेख शायद उनके वर्तमान दुख के विरोधाभास को दिखाने के लिए है कि ऐसी सुकुमार रानी इतना कठोर व्रत ले रही है।
