यम् पालयसि धर्मम् त्वम् धृत्या च नियमेन च ।
स वै राघवशार्दुल! धर्मस्त्वामभिरक्षतु ॥२-२५-३॥
yam pālayasi dharmam tvam dhṛtyā ca niyamena ca |
sa vai rāghavaśārdula! dharmastvāmabhirakṣatu ॥2-25-3॥
Translation
O Tiger among the Raghus! May that very Dharma, which you preserve with fortitude and discipline, protect you on all sides.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे रघुकुल के व्याघ्र (श्रेष्ठ राम)! जिस धर्म का तुम धैर्य और नियम पूर्वक पालन करते हो, वही धर्म तुम्हारी (वन में) सब ओर से रक्षा करे।
English Commentary
This verse encapsulates the core Vedic ethos: Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitah (Dharma protects those who protect it). Kausalya acknowledges that Rama is heading into danger without his royal army. Therefore, she invokes the most potent protection available to him: his own righteousness. By highlighting that Rama upholds Dharma with 'dhrti' (fortitude) and 'niyama' (discipline), she implies that his protection is earned, not just requested. It is a profound shift from relying on physical weapons to relying on moral force. Kausalya trusts that the cosmic order sustains those who align themselves with it.

यह श्लोक भारतीय दर्शन के मूल सिद्धांत 'धर्मो रक्षति रक्षितः' (जो धर्म की रक्षा करता है, धर्म उसकी रक्षा करता है) का साक्षात उदाहरण है। माता कौशल्या जानती हैं कि वन में राम के पास चतुरंगिणी सेना नहीं होगी, इसलिए वे उस सबसे शक्तिशाली कवच का आह्वान करती हैं जो राम के पास है—उनका चरित्र। 'धृत्या' (धैर्य/संकल्प) और 'नियमेन' (नियम/संयम) वे दो स्तंभ हैं जिन पर राम का धर्म टिका है। कौशल्या का यह आशीर्वाद भावनात्मक होने के साथ-साथ तार्किक भी है; वे मानती हैं कि राम का नैतिक बल ही उनकी सबसे बड़ी सुरक्षा होगी। यह एक माँ का विश्वास है कि सत्कर्म कभी निष्फल नहीं जाते।
