Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अभिवाद्य तु कौसल्याम् रामः सम्प्रस्थितः वनम् ।
कृत स्वस्त्ययनो माता धर्मिष्ठे वर्त्मनि स्थितः ॥ ॥२-२६-१॥
Abhivādya tu kausalyām rāmaḥ samprasthitaḥ vanam । Kṛta svastyayano mātrā dharmiṣṭhe vartmani sthitaḥ ॥ ॥2-26-1॥
Translation
Having saluted Kausalya and having had the protective rites performed by his mother, Rama set out for the forest, firmly established on the path of Dharma.

माता कौशल्या को प्रणाम कर और उनसे स्वस्त्ययन (मंगल-कामना) प्राप्त कर, राम वन के लिए प्रस्थित हुए और धर्मपूर्ण मार्ग पर स्थित हुए।
English Commentary
Canto 26 opens with a shift from emotion to action. Rama is described as Dharmishte vartmani sthitah—standing firmly on the path of righteousness. This characterization is crucial; it frames his departure not as a tragedy of a victim, but as the purposeful march of a hero. The Svastyayana (blessings) from his mother serves as his spiritual preparation for this righteous journey (Samprasthitah).

सर्ग 26 का आरंभ राम के दृढ़ संकल्प से होता है। 'धर्मिष्ठे वर्त्मनि स्थितः' (धर्म के मार्ग पर स्थित) वाक्यांश केंद्रीय है। वन जाना कोई मजबूरी नहीं, बल्कि धर्म का मार्ग है जिसे राम ने स्वेच्छा से चुना है। माता का 'स्वस्त्ययन' अब उनका कवच है। यह श्लोक दृश्य बदलता है—अंतपुर के भावनात्मक वातावरण से बाहर निकलकर राम अब कर्तव्य पथ पर अग्रसर हैं।
