Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विराजयन् राज सुतः राज मार्गम् नरैः वृतम् ।
हृदयानि आममन्थ इव जनस्य गुणवत्तया ॥ ॥२-२६-२॥
Virājayan rāja sutaḥ rāja mārgam naraiḥ vṛtam । Hṛdayāni āmamantha iva janasya guṇavattayā ॥ ॥2-26-2॥
Translation
Illuminating the royal road crowded with people, the prince, by virtue of his noble qualities, seemed to churn the hearts of the people.

लोगों से भरे हुए राजमार्ग को अपनी आभा से प्रकाशित करते हुए, उस राजपुत्र ने अपने गुणों के कारण लोगों के हृदयों को मानो मथ डाला।
English Commentary
Valmiki uses the powerful verb Amamantha (churned/agitated) to describe the impact of Rama's presence. Just as the ocean was churned, the hearts of the citizens are thrown into turbulence seeing their beloved prince leaving. His Gunavattaya (abundance of virtues) makes the pain of separation unbearable for the crowd. Though stripped of royal pomp, he still "illuminates" (Virajayan) the royal highway, proving that his royalty is intrinsic to his character, not his attire.

यहाँ एक बहुत सुंदर रूपक (Metaphor) है—'आममन्थ इव' (मानो मथ डाला)। जैसे समुद्र मंथन हुआ था, वैसे ही राम के दर्शन ने अयोध्यावासियों के दिलों को मथ दिया। एक तरफ उनके सौंदर्य और गुणों का आकर्षण है, और दूसरी तरफ उनके वियोग का गहरा दुख। राम 'राजमार्ग' पर चल रहे हैं, लेकिन राजा बनने के लिए नहीं, बल्कि वन जाने के लिए। यह विरोधाभास प्रजा के मन में उथल-पुथल मचा रहा है। 'विराजयन्' बताता है कि राजसी वस्त्र न होने पर भी उनका व्यक्तित्व प्रकाशमान है।
