अभिषेको यदा सज्जः किम् इदानीम् इदम् तव ।
अपूर्वो मुख वर्णः च न प्रहर्षः च लक्ष्यते ॥२-२६-१८॥
Abhiṣeko yadā sajjaḥ kim idānīm idam tava |
Apūrvo mukha varṇaḥ ca na praharṣaḥ ca lakṣyate ॥2-26-18॥
Translation
"When the coronation was all set/ready, why is this your condition now? Your complexion appears strange/unprecedented, and no joy is to be seen."

"जब राज्याभिषेक की तैयारी पूरी हो चुकी थी, तब आपकी यह दशा क्यों है? आपके मुख का रंग बदला हुआ (अपूर्व) है और आपमें तनिक भी हर्ष दिखाई नहीं दे रहा है।"
English Commentary
Sita summarizes her confusion. The premise is that the coronation was 'sajjaḥ' (ready), making the current reality inexplicable. She focuses on Rama's 'mukha varṇaḥ' (face color/complexion), calling it 'apūrvo'—literally meaning 'has not happened before.' She has never seen him this despondent. The lack of 'praharṣaḥ' (joy/exhilaration) is the final confirmation that something catastrophic has occurred. This verse marks the end of her questions and sets the stage for Rama's heartbreaking revelation in the subsequent verses.

यह सीता की पूछताछ का निष्कर्ष (conclusion) है। वस्तुओं की गिनती बंद करके वह सीधे राम की मनोदशा पर प्रहार करती हैं। 'अभिषेको यदा सज्जः'—वह जानती हैं कि तैयारी पूरी थी, इसलिए यह अचानक हुआ परिवर्तन समझ से परे है। वह राम के चेहरे को 'अपूर्व' (जो पहले कभी न देखा गया हो) कहती हैं। राम सदैव स्थितप्रज्ञ रहते हैं, उनका रंग उड़ना सीता के लिए नई और डरावनी बात है। 'न प्रहर्षः' (कोई खुशी नहीं)—यह अंतिम प्रमाण है कि उत्सव रद्द हो चुका है। अब वह सीधे उत्तर की प्रतीक्षा कर रही हैं।
