Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
इति इव विलपन्तीम् ताम् प्रोवाच रघु नन्दनः ।
सीते तत्रभवाम्स् तात प्रव्राजयति माम् वनम् ॥२-२६-१९॥
Iti iva vilapantīm tām provāca raghu nandanaḥ |
Sīte tatrabhavāms tāta pravrājayati mām vanam ॥2-26-19॥
Translation
To her, who was lamenting in this manner, Raghunandana (Rama) spoke: "O Sita! My revered father is banishing me to the forest."

इस प्रकार विलाप करती हुई सीता से रघुनन्दन (राम) बोले—"हे सीते! पूज्य पिताजी मुझे वन भेज रहे हैं (देश निकाला दे रहे हैं)।"
English Commentary
Rama breaks his silence to address Sita, who is described as 'vilapantīm' (lamenting/distressed). His response is direct yet respectful. He refers to Dasharatha as 'Tatrabhavāms tāta'—an honorific title meaning 'revered father' or 'his honor, the father.' Despite being banished, Rama does not speak of his father with anger. The verb 'pravrājayati' signifies sending someone into exile or asceticism. This single line shatters Sita's world, moving from the confusion of missing royal umbrellas to the stark reality of forest exile.

राम अंततः अपनी चुप्पी तोड़ते हैं। सीता की व्याकुलता उनसे देखी नहीं गई। वह बहुत संक्षेप में और सीधे मुख्य बात कहते हैं। यहाँ राम के शब्दों का चयन अद्भुत है। वे दशरथ के लिए 'तत्रभवाम्स् तात' (पूज्य पिता) शब्द का प्रयोग करते हैं। इतना कठोर दंड मिलने के बाद भी पिता के प्रति सम्मान में कमी नहीं आई है। 'प्रव्राजयति' का अर्थ है सन्यासी की तरह भेजना या निर्वासन देना। राम ने कोई भूमिका नहीं बांधी, सीधे सत्य कह दिया ताकि सीता का भ्रम तुरंत दूर हो सके।
