कुले महति सम्भूते धर्मज्ञे धर्म चारिणि ।
शृणु जानकि येन इदम् क्रमेण अभ्यागतम् मम ॥२-२६-२०॥
Kule mahati sambhūte dharmajñe dharma cāriṇi |
Śṛṇu jānaki yena idam krameṇa abhyāgatam mama ॥2-26-20॥
Translation
"O one born in a noble family, knower of Dharma, and practitioner of Dharma! Listen, Janaki, to how this has come upon me in sequence."

"हे महान कुल में उत्पन्न, धर्म को जानने वाली और धर्म का आचरण करने वाली जानकी! सुनो कि यह सब मेरे साथ किस क्रम (घटनाक्रम) से घटित हुआ है।"
English Commentary
Before explaining the details, Rama appeals to Sita's heritage and character. By calling her 'Dharmajñe' (knower of righteousness) and 'Dharma cāriṇi' (practitioner of righteousness), he is implicitly asking her to judge the situation through the lens of duty, just as he has. He reminds her of her high birth ('kule mahati'), suggesting that noble souls must face adversity with grace. Addressing her as 'Janaki', he prepares to narrate the sequence of events ('krameṇa') that led from coronation to exile, grounding his explanation in logic and destiny rather than emotion.

पूरी कहानी सुनाने से पहले राम सीता को उनके संस्कारों की याद दिलाते हैं। उन्हें 'धर्मज्ञे' (धर्म को जानने वाली) कहकर राम परोक्ष रूप से उनसे अपेक्षा कर रहे हैं कि वे इस समाचार को धर्म-बुद्धि से ही ग्रहण करेंगी, न कि केवल भावुकता से। 'कुले महति' (महान कुल, जनक का कुल) का स्मरण दिलाकर वे सीता को धैर्य धारण करने के लिए प्रेरित कर रहे हैं। राम उन्हें 'जानकि' सम्बोधित करते हैं और फिर विस्तार से घटनाक्रम ('क्रमेण') बताना शुरू करते हैं। यह राम की मनोवैज्ञानिक तैयारी है सीता को संभालने के लिए।
