सो अहम् त्वाम् आगतः द्रष्टुम् प्रस्थितः विजनम् वनम् ।
भरतस्य समीपे ते न अहम् कथ्यः कदाचन ॥२-२६-२४॥
So aham tvām āgataḥ draṣṭum prasthitaḥ vijanam vanam |
Bharatasya samīpe te na aham kathyaḥ kadācana ॥2-26-24॥
Translation
"So, I have come to see you as I set out for the lonely forest. You must never speak of me (praise me) in Bharata's presence."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"वह मैं (जो वन जा रहा हूँ), तुम्हें देखने (विदा लेने) आया हूँ। मैं निर्जन वन के लिए प्रस्थान कर रहा हूँ। तुम्हें भरत के सामने मेरी (प्रशंसा की) चर्चा कभी नहीं करनी चाहिए।"
English Commentary
Rama assumes Sita will stay behind and prepares to leave for the 'vijanam vanam' (lonely/uninhabited forest). His instruction is startlingly pragmatic: Sita must not speak of him ('na kathyaḥ') in front of Bharata. This reveals Rama's understanding of human nature and court politics. Even though he trusts Bharata, he knows that hearing his predecessor—who was exiled to make way for him—being praised could breed resentment or insecurity. Rama prioritizes Sita's safety and harmony in the palace over his own legacy or memory.

राम अब सीता को निर्देश देना शुरू करते हैं। वे मानकर चल रहे हैं कि सीता अयोध्या में ही रहेंगी। 'विजनम् वनम्' (जन-शून्य वन) जाने से पहले वह सीता को राजनीतिक व्यवहार सिखा रहे हैं। उनका आदेश विचित्र लग सकता है—'मेरे बारे में बात मत करना'। लेकिन यह राम की दूरदर्शिता है। वे जानते हैं कि भरत अब सत्ता में होंगे, और नए राजा के सामने पुराने (और अधिक लोकप्रिय) राजकुमार का गुणगान करना उस राजा के मन में ईर्ष्या या असुरक्षा पैदा कर सकता है। राम सीता की सुरक्षा के लिए चिंतित हैं।
