न अपि त्वम् तेन भर्तव्या विशेषेण कदाचन ।
अनुकूलतया शक्यम् समीपे तस्य वर्तितुम् ॥२-२६-२६॥
Na api tvam tena bhartavyā viśeṣeṇa kadācana |
Anukūlatayā śakyam samīpe tasya vartitum ॥2-26-26॥
Translation
"Nor should you ever expect to be supported by him in a special manner. Only by acting agreeably/conformably can you live near him."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"तुम्हें उनसे (भरत से) कभी विशेष भरण-पोषण या सम्मान की अपेक्षा नहीं करनी चाहिए। उनके अनुकूल (आज्ञाकारी) रहकर ही तुम उनके समीप रह सकती हो।"
English Commentary
Rama is stripping away any illusions Sita might have about her status. As the wife of an exile, she cannot demand special treatment ('viśeṣeṇa') from the new King. He warns her that her survival and comfort depend on her being 'anukūlatayā'—agreeable and conformable to Bharata's will. This is a harsh protective warning. He is essentially telling her to keep a low profile and fit into the new regime, implying that her previous status offers her no protection anymore.

राम सीता को कठोर वास्तविकता के लिए तैयार कर रहे हैं। अब वह 'युवराज-पत्नी' नहीं हैं, बल्कि एक निर्वासित की पत्नी हैं। 'विशेषेण' (विशेष रूप से) सम्मान की उम्मीद छोड़नी होगी। राम का कहना है कि 'अनुकूलतया' (अनुसार चलकर/जी-हुजूरी करके) ही वहां निबाह हो सकता है। यह सीता के लिए बहुत बड़ी गिरावट है—महारानी बनने वाली थीं, और अब उन्हें किसी की कृपा पर रहना होगा। राम यह सब इसलिए कह रहे हैं ताकि सीता मानसिक रूप से तैयार हो जाएं और अयोध्या में सुरक्षित रह सकें।
