विप्रियम् न च कर्तव्यम् भरतस्य कदाचन ।
स हि राजा प्रभुः चैव देशस्य च कुलस्य च ॥२-२६-३४॥
Vipriyam na ca kartavyam bharatasya kadācana |
Sa hi rājā prabhuḥ caiva deśasya ca kulasya ca ॥2-26-34॥
Translation
"You must never do anything unpleasant to Bharata. For he is indeed the King and the Lord of both the country and the family."

"भरत का कभी भी कोई अप्रिय (कार्य) नहीं करना चाहिए। क्योंकि वही अब देश और कुल (परिवार) के राजा और स्वामी हैं।"
English Commentary
Rama reiterates the necessity of political and domestic caution regarding Bharata. He explicitly forbids Sita from doing anything "vipriyam" (disagreeable/unpleasant) to him. The justification is absolute: Bharata is now the "Prabhu" (Lord/Master) not just of the "deśasya" (country) but also of the "kulasya" (family/lineage). Rama is establishing the new hierarchy where Bharata is the supreme authority. Sita is being told that her position as the elder brother's wife does not exempt her from the authority of the reigning monarch.

राम पुनः भरत के विषय में चेतावनी देते हैं। 'विप्रियम्' (अप्रिय/जो पसंद न हो) कार्य करने से मना करते हैं। राम सीता को वास्तविकता समझा रहे हैं: 'स हि राजा' (वह ही राजा है)। अब परिवार के मुखिया दशरथ या राम नहीं, बल्कि भरत हैं। 'कुलस्य च' (और कुल के) शब्द जोड़कर राम यह स्पष्ट करते हैं कि भरत का अधिकार केवल राज्य पर नहीं, बल्कि रघुकुल के निजी मामलों पर भी है। इसलिए सीता को पारिवारिक मामलों में भी भरत की इच्छा का उल्लंघन नहीं करना चाहिए।
