आराधिता हि शीलेन प्रयत्नैः च उपसेविताः ।
राजानः सम्प्रसीदन्ति प्रकुप्यन्ति विपर्यये ॥२-२६-३५॥
Ārādhitā hi śīlena prayatnaiḥ ca upasevitāḥ |
Rājānaḥ samprasīdanti prakupyanti viparyaye ॥2-26-35॥
Translation
"Kings are pleased when worshipped with good conduct and served with diligent effort, but they get angry at the reverse."

"कदाचित शील (सदाचार) से आराधित और प्रयत्नपूर्वक सेवा किए जाने पर राजा लोग प्रसन्न होते हैं, और इसके विपरीत होने पर कुपित हो जाते हैं।"
English Commentary
Rama imparts a lesson in Rajneeti (statecraft) and human psychology. He explains that "Rājānaḥ" (Kings) are not unconditional in their favor; they must be "ārādhitā" (worshipped/propitiated) through "śīlena" (good character) and "prayatnaiḥ" (deliberate efforts). He warns that the reverse behavior leads to anger ('prakupyanti'). This is a practical warning: despite Bharata's goodness, the institution of Kingship requires submission. Rama wants Sita to be hyper-aware that power can change people, and she must be vigilant in her conduct to remain safe.

यह श्लोक राजनीति और मानव स्वभाव का निचोड़ है। राम सीता को समझा रहे हैं कि राजा का स्वभाव संवेदनशील होता है। केवल रिश्तेदारी काफी नहीं है; 'शीलेन' (अच्छे चरित्र) और 'प्रयत्नैः' (प्रयासों/सेवा) से उन्हें खुश रखना पड़ता है। 'प्रकुप्यन्ति विपर्यये'—यदि व्यवहार इसके विपरीत हुआ, तो वे क्रोधित हो जाते हैं। राम सीता को डरा नहीं रहे, बल्कि एक असुरक्षित वातावरण (जहाँ उनका रक्षक पति मौजूद नहीं है) में रहने के लिए 'survivability' (जीवित रहने) का मंत्र दे रहे हैं।
