ईर्ष्या रोषौ बहिष् कृत्य भुक्त शेषम् इव उदकम् ।
नय माम् वीर विश्रब्धः पापम् मयि न विद्यते ॥२-२७-७॥
īrṣyā roṣau bahiṣ kṛtya bhukta śeṣam iva udakam । naya mām vīra viśrabdhaḥ pāpam mayi na vidyate ॥2-27-7॥
Translation
O Hero, casting aside envy and anger, take me with you confidently, just as one takes water left over after drinking. There is no sin in me (that warrants separation).
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे वीर! ईर्ष्या और रोष (अमर्ष) को त्याग कर, मुझे उसी प्रकार साथ ले चलिए जैसे कोई पीने के बाद बचे हुए जल को साथ रखता है। आप निशंक होकर मुझे ले चलें, मुझमें कोई पाप (दोष) नहीं है।
English Commentary
Sita uses a humble yet powerful metaphor here: bhukta shesham iva udakam (like water left over after drinking). Just as a traveler naturally keeps the remaining pure water for later use without considering it a burden, Rama should take her along. She implies that she is essentially a part of him, his sustenance, and belongs solely to him. She asks him to discard any "envy or anger"—possibly referring to his frustration with the situation or hesitation about her safety. By asserting papam mayi na vidyate (no sin exists in me), she argues that forced separation is a punishment reserved for the guilty. Since she is pure and chaste, she deserves to be by his side. She appeals to his bravery (Vira), asking him to act with confidence (vishrabdhah) rather than fear for her safety.

सीता जी यहाँ राम के मन में छिपे संकोच को दूर कर रही हैं। राम को डर हो सकता है कि वन में सीता की रक्षा करना कठिन होगा या लोग क्या कहेंगे। सीता कहती हैं कि जैसे पीने के बाद पात्र में बचा हुआ जल यात्री के लिए बोझ नहीं होता बल्कि उसकी अपनी ही संपत्ति होती है, वैसे ही मैं आपकी हूँ। 'भुक्त शेषम् उदकम्' का उपमा अत्यंत सुंदर है—यह जल शुद्ध है, अपना है, और जीवनदायक है। वह राम से कहती हैं कि 'मुझमें कोई पाप नहीं है' अर्थात मैंने ऐसा कोई अपराध नहीं किया है जिसके दंड स्वरूप मुझे आपसे वियोग सहना पड़े। वह राम को 'वीर' कहकर उनके क्षत्रिय धर्म को ललकारती हैं कि एक वीर अपनी निर्दोष पत्नी को साथ ले जाने में संकोच नहीं करता।
