शुद्ध आत्मन् प्रेम भावाद्द् हि भविष्यामि विकल्मषा ।
भर्तारम् अनुगच्चन्ती भर्ता हि मम दैवतम् ॥ ॥२-२९-१६॥
Śuddha ātman prema bhāvādd hi bhaviṣyāmi vikalmaṣā । Bhartāram anugaccantī bhartā hi mama daivatam ॥ ॥2-29-16॥
Translation
O pure-souled one! Following my husband out of love, I shall become free from sin, for my husband is indeed my deity.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे शुद्धात्मन्! मैं प्रेमभाव से अपने पति का अनुसरण करती हुई निष्पाप हो जाऊंगी, क्योंकि पति ही मेरा देवता है।
English Commentary
Sita elevates her request to a spiritual pursuit. Addressing Rama as Shuddha Atman (Pure Soul), she asserts that accompanying him is a purifying act. She believes that by following her husband (bhartaram anugacchanti), she will be absolved of all sins (vikalmasha). This reflects the ethos where the husband is regarded as daivatam (deity) for the wife. Her journey to the forest is thus not just physical travel, but a spiritual sadhana (practice) through devotion.

यहाँ सीता जी पातिव्रत्य धर्म का सार प्रस्तुत करती हैं। वे राम को 'शुद्धात्मन्' कहती हैं, जिसका अर्थ है पवित्र आत्मा वाला। उनका तर्क है कि राम जैसे देवता तुल्य पति ('भर्ता हि मम दैवतम्') के पीछे चलने से ही वे 'विकल्मषा' (पाप रहित) हो जाएंगी। वन में रहने से उन्हें जो तपस्या का फल मिलेगा, वह पति सेवा के माध्यम से ही प्राप्त हो जाएगा। यह भारतीय संस्कृति का वह आदर्श है जहाँ पति-सेवा को मोक्ष का मार्ग माना गया है।
