Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एवम् बहु विधम् तम् सा याचते गमनम् प्रति ।
न अनुमेने महा बाहुस् ताम् नेतुम् विजनम् वनम् ॥ ॥२-२९-२२॥
Evam bahu vidham tam sā yācate gamanam prati । Na anumene mahā bāhus tām netum vijanam vanam ॥ ॥2-29-22॥
Translation
Thus she pleaded with him in many ways to accompany him. Yet, the mighty-armed Rama did not consent to take her to the desolate forest.

इस प्रकार सीता ने वन जाने के लिए अनेक प्रकार से याचना की। फिर भी महाबाहु राम ने उन्हें निर्जन वन में ले जाने की अनुमति नहीं दी।
English Commentary
The narrative voice returns to describe Rama's reaction. Despite her logic, emotional appeals, and threats of self-harm, Rama remains steadfast. The phrase na anumene (did not agree) highlights his resolve. He is described as Maha Bahu (mighty-armed), implying he has the strength to protect her, yet he views the vijanam vanam (lonely/uninhabited forest) as too hostile for his beloved. His refusal stems from deep protective love, fearing the forest's hardships more than her threats.

सीता के इतने कठोर वचनों और तर्कों के बाद भी राम अपनी बात पर अड़े रहे। 'न अनुमेने' (अनुमति नहीं दी)—यह राम के चरित्र की दृढ़ता (और सीता के प्रति उनकी अत्यधिक सुरक्षात्मक भावना) को दिखाता है। राम को 'महा बाहुः' (विशाल भुजाओं वाला) कहा गया है, जो यह संकेत करता है कि वे शक्तिशाली हैं, फिर भी 'विजनम् वनम्' (जनशून्य/खतरनाक जंगल) के खतरों को वे सीता के लिए बहुत बड़ा मानते हैं। वे सीता के प्राणों को जोखिम में डालने के लिए तैयार नहीं हैं, भले ही सीता मृत्यु की बात कहें।
