एवम् उक्ता तु सा चिन्ताम् मैथिली समुपागता ।
स्नापयन्ती इव गाम् उष्णैः अश्रुभिर् नयन च्युतैः ॥ ॥२-२९-२३॥
Evam uktā tu sā cintām maithilī samupāgatā । Snāpayantī iva gām uṣṇaiḥ aśrubhir nayana cyutaiḥ ॥ ॥2-29-23॥
Translation
Being addressed thus (refused), Maithili became filled with deep anxiety. She seemed to bathe the earth with hot tears falling from her eyes.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(राम द्वारा मना किए जाने पर) मैथिली सीता अत्यंत चिंतामग्न हो गईं। वे अपनी आँखों से गिरते हुए गर्म आंसुओं से मानो पृथ्वी को नहलाने लगीं।
English Commentary
Sita's reaction to the refusal is one of crushing despair. She sinks into chintam (anxiety/grief). The imagery used is powerful: her tears are described as ushnaih (hot), signifying the burning intensity of her sorrow, distinguishing it from cold tears of fear. The metaphor snapayanti iva gam (as if bathing the earth) illustrates the profusion of her weeping. It captures a moment of total vulnerability where words have failed, and only grief remains.

राम के इनकार ने सीता को तोड़ दिया। 'चिन्ताम् समुपागता'—वे गहरी चिंता और शोक में डूब गईं। यहाँ उनके दुख की भौतिक अभिव्यक्ति का मार्मिक चित्रण है। उनके आंसू 'उष्णैः' (गर्म) हैं, जो उनके हृदय की तीव्र वेदना और संताप को दर्शाते हैं। 'स्नापयन्ती इव गाम्' (मानो पृथ्वी को नहला रही हों)—यह अतिशयोक्ति उनके आंसुओं की अविरल धारा को दिखाती है। सीता का यह मौन रुदन उनके शब्दों से भी अधिक प्रभावशाली है।
