चिन्तयन्तीम् तथा ताम् तु निवर्तयितुम् आत्मवान् ।
तम्बराष्ट्रें स तदा सीताम् काकुत्स्थो बह्व् असान्त्वयत् ॥ ॥२-२९-२४॥
Cintayantīm tathā tām tu nivartayitum ātmavān । Tamb raṣṭhīm sa tadā sītām kākutstho bahv asāntvayat ॥ ॥2-29-24॥
Translation
Seeing her thus lost in thought and grief, the self-controlled Rama tried to console Sita of the copper-red lips in many ways, to dissuade her from her resolve.

उस प्रकार चिंता में डूबी हुई उन सीता को (वन जाने के हठ से) लौटाने के लिए, आत्मसंयमी राम ने उन ताम्रवर्णी होठों वाली सीता को बहुत प्रकार से सांत्वना दी।
English Commentary
Rama attempts to comfort her while maintaining his stance. He is described as atmavan (self-possessed), indicating he is managing his own distress to handle hers. His goal is still nivartayitum—to turn her back from her decision. The descriptor tamroshthim (red-lipped/copper-lipped) draws attention to her delicate, royal beauty, reinforcing in Rama's mind why she is unfit for the rugged wild. He offers bahu asantvayat (many consolations), trying to soothe her pain without conceding to her dangerous request.

सीता की यह दशा देखकर राम पिघलते हैं, लेकिन अपना निर्णय नहीं बदलते। वे 'आत्मवान्' (जिसका मन वश में है) हैं, इसलिए वे भावनाओं में बहते नहीं। वे सीता को 'निवर्तयितुम्' (लौटाने/विचार बदलने) का प्रयास करते हैं। सीता के सौंदर्य का वर्णन 'तम्बराष्ट्रें' (तांबे जैसे लाल होठों वाली) शब्द से किया गया है, जो उनकी सुकुमारता को रेखांकित करता है—कि ऐसी कोमल स्त्री वन के योग्य नहीं है। राम उन्हें 'बहु असान्त्वयत्' (बहुत समझाया/सांत्वना दी) ताकि वे अयोध्या में रहने के लिए मान जाएं।
