अहोऽस्मि परमप्रीतः प्रभावश्चातुलो मम ।
यन्मे ज्येष्ठं प्रियं पुत्रं यौवराज्यस्थ मिच्छथ ॥२-३-२॥
aho'smi paramaprītaḥ prabhāvaścātulo mama |
yanme jyeṣṭhaṁ priyaṁ putraṁ yauvarājyastha micchatha ॥2-3-2॥
Translation
Ah! I am extremely delighted, and my influence is indeed incomparable, since you all desire to see my eldest and dearest son established in the position of Crown Prince.

अहो! मैं अत्यन्त प्रसन्न हूँ और मेरा प्रभाव भी अतुलनीय है, क्योंकि आप लोग मेरे ज्येष्ठ एवं प्रिय पुत्र को युवराज पद पर प्रतिष्ठित देखना चाहते हैं।
English Commentary
This verse is the second shloka of the third Sarga in the Ayodhya Kanda of the Valmiki Ramayana. In this shloka, Maharaja Dasharatha is addressing an assembly of his ministers, Brahmins, city elders, and other dignitaries. The assembly has unanimously requested the King to appoint his eldest and most beloved son, Shri Rama, as the Yuvaraja (Crown Prince). Dasharatha expresses the immense delight in his heart upon hearing this proposition. He not only states his joy but also finds contentment in the fact that this desire to see his son as the Crown Prince comes from his own subjects. King Dasharatha considers this a testament to his incomparable greatness and influence (prabhāva) that the affection he holds for his son is reciprocated by the respect and desire of his people. The verse highlights Dasharatha's paternal love, his deference to the people, and the prestige of the royal family due to the unanimous decision of the assembly, signaling the wide acceptance of Shri Rama's virtues.

यह श्लोक वाल्मीकि रामायण के अयोध्याकाण्ड के तीसरे सर्ग का दूसरा श्लोक है। इस श्लोक में, महाराज दशरथ अपने मंत्रियों, ब्राह्मणों, नगर के प्रमुखों और अन्य गणमान्य व्यक्तियों की सभा को संबोधित कर रहे हैं। सभा ने सर्वसम्मति से महाराज से उनके ज्येष्ठ और अत्यंत प्रिय पुत्र श्री राम को युवराज (युवराज) नियुक्त करने का अनुरोध किया है। दशरथ जी इस प्रस्ताव को सुनकर अपने हृदय की अत्यधिक प्रसन्नता व्यक्त करते हैं। वे न केवल अपनी खुशी व्यक्त करते हैं, बल्कि इस बात पर भी संतोष व्यक्त करते हैं कि उनके पुत्र को युवराज के रूप में देखने की यह इच्छा स्वयं उनकी प्रजा की है। राजा दशरथ इसे अपनी अतुलनीय महानता और प्रभाव के प्रमाण के रूप में देखते हैं कि उनके पुत्र के लिए उनका जो स्नेह है, वही स्नेह और सम्मान उनकी प्रजा भी रखती है। यह श्लोक दशरथ के जनक-सुलभ प्रेम, प्रजा के प्रति उनके सम्मान और सभा में सर्वसम्मत निर्णय के कारण राजपरिवार की प्रतिष्ठा को दर्शाता है, जो श्री राम के गुणों की व्यापक स्वीकृति का संकेत है।
