रामः कृतात्मा भवता शीघ्रमानीयतामिति ।
स तथेति प्रतिज्ञाय सुमन्त्रो राजशासनात् ॥२-३-२३॥
rāmaḥ kṛtātmā bhavatā śīghramānīyatāmiti।sa tatheti pratijñāya sumantro rājaśāsanāt ॥2-3-23॥
Translation
(The King said) 'Let Rama, the self-controlled (or pure-souled one), be brought by you immediately.' He (Sumantra), having promised 'So be it,' departed by the King's command.

कि ‘कृतात्मा (संयमी और पूर्ण पुरुष) राम को आप (सुमन्त्र) शीघ्र लेकर आइए।’ वह (सुमन्त्र) ‘ऐसा ही हो’ यह प्रतिज्ञा करके राजा की आज्ञा से (वहाँ से चला)।
English Commentary
This verse from the third Sarga of the Ayodhya Kanda immediately follows the previous one (2-3-22). In this shloka, King Dasharatha issues a direct command to his minister, Sumantra. The King instructs Sumantra to immediately bring Shri Rama, whom he addresses as 'Kritatma'—meaning the self-controlled, pure-souled, or perfect-souled one. The use of 'Kritatma' highlights Shri Rama's sublime character and virtues. This command by King Dasharatha marks the initial, formal step to advance the process of Rama's installation as Crown Prince. Upon receiving the King's order (Raja-shasanat), Sumantra, with great promptness and humility, promised to execute the command by saying 'Tatheti' (So be it), and departed immediately to fetch Rama. This action demonstrates Sumantra's loyalty to the King and his eagerness to facilitate this auspicious event. The verse signals the imminent commencement of the ceremony.

यह श्लोक वाल्मीकि रामायण के अयोध्याकाण्ड के तीसरे सर्ग का है और यह तुरंत पिछले श्लोक (२-३-२२) से जुड़ा हुआ है। पिछले श्लोक में राजा दशरथ ने सुमन्त्र को बुलाया था; अब इस श्लोक में राजा दशरथ सुमन्त्र को आदेश देते हैं। राजा दशरथ सुमन्त्र से कहते हैं कि वे कृतात्मा अर्थात् पूर्ण संयमी, शुद्ध मन वाले श्री राम को तुरंत राजसभा में लेकर आएं। 'कृतात्मा' शब्द का प्रयोग श्री राम के उत्कृष्ट चरित्र और गुणों को दर्शाता है। राजा दशरथ का यह आदेश श्री राम के युवराज्याभिषेक की प्रक्रिया को औपचारिक रूप से आगे बढ़ाने का पहला कदम था। राजाज्ञा (राजशासनात्) मिलते ही, सुमन्त्र ने अत्यंत तत्परता और विनम्रता से 'तथेति' (ऐसा ही हो) कहकर राजा की आज्ञा का पालन करने की प्रतिज्ञा की और तुरंत राम को लाने के लिए चले गए। यह सुमन्त्र की राजा के प्रति निष्ठा और इस शुभ कार्य को करने की उनकी उत्सुकता को भी दिखाता है। यह श्लोक राज्याभिषेक के शीघ्र आरंभ होने का संकेत देता है।
