चैत्रः श्रीमानयं मासः पुण्यः पुष्पितकाननः ।
यौवराज्याय रामस्य सर्वमेवोपकल्प्यताम् ॥२-३-४॥
caitraḥ śrīmānayaṁ māsaḥ puṇyaḥ puṣpitakānanaḥ |
yauvarājyāya rāmasya sarvamevopakalpyatām ॥2-3-4॥
Translation
This auspicious month of Chaitra is holy and its forests are filled with blooming flowers. Therefore, let all necessary arrangements be made for the coronation of Rāma as the Crown Prince.

यह चैत्र का महीना श्रीमान् (शुभ) है, पवित्र है और इसके वन खिले हुए फूलों से युक्त हैं। (अतः) श्री राम के यौवराज्याभिषेक के लिए सभी आवश्यक सामग्रियाँ तैयार की जाएँ।
English Commentary
This verse is the fourth shloka of the third Sarga in the Ayodhya Kanda of the Valmiki Ramayana. Following the address to Maharshi Vasiṣṭha and Vāmadeva in the previous verse, Maharaja Dasharatha now issues his instruction. The King expresses his immediate desire for the coronation of Shri Rama by mentioning the auspicious timing. The King underscores the sacredness and auspiciousness of the month of Chaitra. Chaitra marks the season of Spring, signifying life, prosperity, and joy—described here as having 'puṣpitakānanaḥ' (forests filled with blooming flowers). The auspiciousness of the timing (Muhurta) is considered paramount for religious and state functions. The King does not wish to delay in fulfilling the will of his people and thus immediately instructs Maharshi Vasiṣṭha and Vāmadeva that 'sarvamevopakalpyatām,' meaning all necessary arrangements, should be made for the coronation. This instruction highlights the King's enthusiasm, the firmness of his decision, and the deep faith he and his subjects have in the virtues of Shri Rama.

यह श्लोक वाल्मीकि रामायण के अयोध्याकाण्ड के तीसरे सर्ग का चौथा श्लोक है। पिछले श्लोक में महाराज दशरथ ने महर्षि वसिष्ठ और वामदेव को संबोधित करना आरंभ किया था, और इस श्लोक में वह अपना निर्देश दे रहे हैं। महाराज दशरथ, श्री राम के यौवराज्याभिषेक के लिए शुभ मुहूर्त का उल्लेख करते हुए अपनी तत्काल इच्छा व्यक्त करते हैं। राजा चैत्र के महीने की शुभता और पवित्रता को रेखांकित करते हैं। चैत्र मास वसंत ऋतु का प्रतीक है, जो जीवन, समृद्धि और आनंद को दर्शाता है—जिसे यहाँ 'पुष्पितकाननः' (खिले हुए वनों वाला) कहकर वर्णित किया गया है। धार्मिक और राजकीय कार्यों के लिए समय की शुभता (मुहूर्त) अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण मानी जाती है। राजा अपनी प्रजा की इच्छा का सम्मान करने में कोई विलम्ब नहीं करना चाहते और इसलिए वह महर्षि वसिष्ठ और वामदेव को तत्काल निर्देश देते हैं कि यौवराज्याभिषेक के लिए 'सर्वमेवोपकल्प्यताम्' अर्थात् सभी आवश्यक व्यवस्थाएँ पूर्ण की जाएँ। यह निर्देश राजा के उत्साह, निर्णय की दृढ़ता और श्री राम के गुणों के प्रति उनके तथा उनकी प्रजा के गहरे विश्वास को दर्शाता है।
