Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तदद्य भगवन् सर्वमाज्ञापयितु मर्हसि ।
तच्छ्रुत्वा भूमिपालस्य वसिष्ठो द्विजसत्तमः ॥२-३-७॥
tadadya bhagavan sarvamājñāpayitu marhasi |
tacchrutvā bhūmipālasya vasiṣṭho dvijasattamaḥ ॥2-3-7॥
Translation
Therefore, O Revered One (Vasiṣṭha), you ought to issue the commands for all those (rites and paraphernalia) today itself. Hearing that (request) from the protector of the earth (King Dasharatha), Vasiṣṭha, the foremost among the twice-born (Brahmanas), (did this).
हिंदी अनुवाद
इसलिए, हे भगवन् (पूज्य वसिष्ठ), आप आज ही उन सभी (कार्यों और उपकरणों) का आदेश देने की कृपा करें। उस (प्रार्थना) को पृथ्वीपाल (राजा दशरथ) से सुनकर, ब्राह्मणों में श्रेष्ठ वसिष्ठ ने (यह किया)।
English Commentary
This verse is the seventh shloka of the third Sarga in the Ayodhya Kanda of the Valmiki Ramayana. In the previous verse, Maharaja Dasharatha had inquired about all the necessary rites and materials for the coronation of Shri Rama from Maharshi Vasiṣṭha. In this shloka, King Dasharatha humbly requests Maharshi Vasiṣṭha to issue the command for all those preparations today itself, without any delay. The address 'Bhagavan' denotes the King's supreme reverence for Vasiṣṭha. Dasharatha places complete trust in his guru's spiritual authority and knowledge of rites, merely requesting him to command the preparations. The King's urgency reflects his eagerness to seize the auspicious moment and fulfill the desire of his subjects. Upon hearing the request from the 'bhūmipālasya' (protector of the earth), Maharshi Vasiṣṭha, the 'dvijasattamaḥ' (foremost among the twice-born), began his work to initiate the coronation process—details of which follow in the subsequent verses. This verse illustrates the cooperation between the temporal power (Rājasattā) and the spiritual authority (Dharmasattā), where the King makes the decision, and the Guru ensures the righteous execution of the law.
