Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अस्वाधीनम् कथम् दैवम् प्रकारैरभिराध्यते ।
स्वाधीनम् समतिक्रम्य मातरम् पितरम् गुरुम् ॥ ॥२-३०-३३॥
Asvādhīnam katham daivam prakārair abhirādhyate । Svādhīnam samatikramya mātaram pitaram gurum ॥ ॥2-30-33॥
Translation
How can one worship the Divine, which is unseen and beyond control, by ignoring the mother, father, and teacher who are seen and within one's reach?

जो माता, पिता और गुरु प्रत्यक्ष (स्वाधीन/अपने पास) हैं, उनका उल्लंघन (अनादर) करके उस दैव (ईश्वर) की आराधना कैसे की जा सकती है जो प्रत्यक्ष नहीं (अस्वाधीन) है?
English Commentary
Rama presents a powerful theological argument. He contrasts the asvadhinam (independent/unseen/distant Deity) with the svadhinam (dependent/present/accessible parents). He argues that it is hypocritical to worship an abstract God while neglecting the tangible gods (parents and gurus) standing right in front of you. True worship begins with fulfilling immediate duties.

यह एक गहरा दार्शनिक प्रश्न है। राम 'प्रत्यक्ष देव' (माता-पिता-गुरु) और 'परोक्ष देव' (ईश्वर) में भेद करते हैं। जो लोग सामने बैठे माता-पिता की सेवा नहीं करते, वे अदृश्य ईश्वर को कैसे प्रसन्न कर सकते हैं? राम का तर्क है कि सच्ची आध्यात्मिकता कर्तव्यों के पालन में है, न कि उनसे भागने में। 'स्वाधीन' का अर्थ है जो हमारे अधीन या समीप हैं।
