Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
देवगन्धर्वगोलोकान् ब्रह्मलोकम् तथापरान् ।
प्राप्नुवन्ति महात्मानो मातापितृपरायणाः ॥ ॥२-३०-३७॥
devagandharvagolokān brahmalokam tathāparān । prāpnuvanti mahātmāno mātāpitṛparāyaṇāḥ ॥ ॥2-30-37॥
Translation
Those great souls who are devoted to their mother and father attain the worlds of the Devas, the Gandharvas, Goloka, Brahmaloka, and other high spiritual realms.

जो महात्मा अपने माता-पिता की सेवा में तत्पर रहते हैं, वे देवलोक, गन्धर्वलोक, गोलोक, ब्रह्मलोक तथा अन्य उच्च लोकों को प्राप्त करते हैं।
English Commentary
This verse extols the virtue of Matri-Pitru Bhakti (devotion to parents). Rama clarifies that serving one's parents is not merely a social duty but a definitive path to spiritual elevation and the attainment of higher celestial worlds. In the Vedic tradition, parents are regarded as visible deities (Pratyaksha Devata). Rama reasons that if obeying his father’s command leads him to the forest, it is not a source of sorrow but a means to attain the highest state of existence. The mention of specific realms like 'Goloka' and 'Brahmaloka' suggests that the merit gained from serving parents equates to, or even surpasses, the merit gained from complex Vedic sacrifices (Yajnas) and severe austerities. Rama establishes that adhering to this Dharma leads to ultimate spiritual victory, making the loss of the earthly kingdom insignificant.

यह श्लोक 'मातृ-पितृ भक्ति' की महिमा का गान करता है। श्रीराम यहाँ स्पष्ट करते हैं कि माता-पिता की सेवा केवल एक सामाजिक कर्तव्य नहीं है, बल्कि यह पारलौकिक उन्नति का एक निश्चित मार्ग है। धर्मशास्त्रों में माता-पिता को प्रत्यक्ष देवता माना गया है। राम का तर्क है कि यदि पिता की आज्ञा का पालन करने से उन्हें वनवास मिल रहा है, तो यह उनके लिए दुख का विषय नहीं, बल्कि परम गति प्राप्त करने का साधन है। यहाँ 'गोलोक' और 'ब्रह्मलोक' जैसे शब्दों का प्रयोग यह दर्शाता है कि माता-पिता की सेवा से प्राप्त पुण्य यज्ञ और तपस्या से प्राप्त पुण्य के समान या उससे भी बढ़कर है। श्रीराम यह संदेश दे रहे हैं कि धर्म के मार्ग पर चलने वाले के लिए भौतिक सुखों का त्याग अंततः आध्यात्मिक विजय की ओर ले जाता है।
