English Commentary
This verse (continuing into the next) lists the inventory of a royal life that must be abandoned. Rama lists bhūṣaṇāni (ornaments), varavastrāṇi (fine silks/garments), and krīḍārthāḥ (items for leisure/amusement). These items define their status as royals. Rama specifically points out items of luxury and pleasure. The act of giving these away is not just material distribution; it is the dismantling of their royal identity. In the forest, these items are useless burdens. By asking Sita to give them away, Rama is helping her sever the psychological attachment to the palace life, ensuring that when they step out, they do so as ascetics, not as displaced royals clinging to past glories.
