न तु अहम् मनसा अपि अन्यम् द्रष्टा अस्मि त्वद् ऋते अनघ ।
त्वया राघव गच्चेयम् यथा अन्या कुल पाम्सनी ॥ ॥२-३०-७॥
Na tu aham manasā api anyam draṣṭā asmi tvad ṛte anagha । Tvayā rāghava gacceyam yathā anyā kula pāmsanī ॥ ॥2-30-7॥
Translation
O sinless Raghava! I have not looked at another man even in my mind, except you. I must go with you; I am not like a woman who brings disgrace to her family (who might stay back and stray).
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे निष्पाप राघव! मैंने मन से भी आपके सिवा किसी दूसरे पुरुष को नहीं देखा है। (यदि आप मुझे छोड़ गए तो) मैं कुल कलंकिनी स्त्री की भांति आपके साथ (बलपूर्वक) चलूँगी? (भाव यह है कि मैं कुलकलंकिनी नहीं हूँ, इसलिए मेरा साथ जाना धर्मसंगत है)।
English Commentary
Sita asserts her absolute fidelity, stating she has never even mentally looked at another man. She contrasts herself with a kula-pamsani (a woman who disgraces her lineage). Her argument is subtle but firm: staying apart from one's husband, especially for a prolonged period, is not the conduct of a chaste woman in her view. She implies that separation is morally perilous and that her place is by his side to maintain the sanctity of their marriage vows. She refuses to be treated like a woman of loose morals who can easily live apart from her husband.

सीता जी अपने चरित्र की शुद्धता की दुहाई देती हैं। वे कहती हैं कि उन्होंने स्वप्न में भी किसी पर-पुरुष का विचार नहीं किया। यहाँ एक सूक्ष्म तर्क है: एक पतिव्रता स्त्री के लिए पति के बिना रहना असुरक्षित और अनुचित है। 'कुल पाम्सनी' (कुल को दूषित करने वाली) का उल्लेख करके वे कहना चाहती हैं कि यदि वे अयोध्या में अकेली रहीं, तो यह लोकापवाद का कारण बन सकता है या यह उस स्त्री का लक्षण है जो पति की सेवा से जी चुराती है। वे राम के साथ जाने को अपना परम धर्म बताती हैं।
